Ektaco, a successful point of sale system and access control developer, is celebrating its 30th year of business activity. Its business grew 30% in the previous year thanks to client centric approach and export markets growth.
„Ektaco was established 30 years ago as a startup of its time with investors from Finland and risky ambitious plans. The company started with producing personal computers in Estonia and sold these to schools in Finland,“ tell CEO of Ektaco, Mr Kaido Jelle.
Based on Jelle’s words then soon development of point-of-sale hardware and software was added to personal computers and it has stayed as our main activity until today. „It is hard to imagine to many now but we brought special keyboards, magnetic card readers for registering loyalty cards and customer displays to show the sum of purchase next to the abacus into the shops and bars,“ commented Mr Jelle from Ektaco’s early years.
Today more than 1500 restaurants, shops and entertainment centre are using Ektaco’s 4th generation point-of-sale system CompuCash. Also our 5th generation mobile point-of-sale and web based office programme are already available. Ektaco’s product family has also started to sell in several foreign markets.
CEO of Tallinn Science Park Tehnopol, Mr Indrek Orav, Ektaco has proved that also a company with a traditional business model can develop new solutions using startup minded agile methodologies and find new ways to boost growth. „Ektaco is one of the first companies in today’s science park campus and I am glad to see that they are leaders in their field also nowadays,“ said the manager of Tehnopol.
Ektaco’s COO, Külle Tärnov, says that the goal of the next 10 years is to grow considerably, increase sales of our products in Estonia and foreign markets and add a couple of new products into our portfolio. „We have been focusing on scalable products and clear segments, using a client centric approach and design thinking in our product development. To keep a strong focus we have already sold our automation business unit and in the future we are also seeking growth options through purchase of a company with a complementary product with good potential,“ explained Mrs Tärnov.
In addition to the point-of-sale system there is also a product for industry digitalisation, for work time management and integrable access control solution in Ektaco’s product portfolio.
